Valley Regional Transit (VRT) provides a wide range of transportation solutions for citizens in Boise, Idaho. From the fixed-route bus system to the ACCESS paratransit service (ADA RIDE), there are plenty of options for getting around the city. Go is a commuter membership program designed to help individuals and businesses travel more efficiently in and out of downtown Boise. This program offers incentives and benefits to those who choose to travel smarter.
Harvest Transit provides free transportation for seniors, people with disabilities, and veterans within a designated service area in Meridian. Treasure Valley Transit, Inc. (TVT) is dedicated to providing a viable public transportation system where needs are great and access is limited. This includes Access to Employment, Low Income, New Americans, Boise, Eagle, Kuna, Meridian, Star.
The Village Van program provides access to employment services for low-income people and refugees. Hours of service and employers served vary depending on established associations. Boise State University faculty, staff, and students can take advantage of free buses traveling to and from campus. Valley Regional Transit also has a long-standing relationship with Supportive Housing and Innovative Partnerships (SHIP) to provide free transportation to seniors, veterans and people with disabilities in Boise.
Last year, the Boise Metropolitan Chamber launched an effort in partnership with the City of Boise to restore service and possibly recover trains. The Idaho Urban Land Institute has expressed concern about the minimal presence of public transportation in Treasure Valley and throughout Idaho. ValleyRide provides public transportation services to Valley Regional Transit - the regional public transportation authority for Ada and Canyon counties in southwestern Idaho. The peak of public transportation in the Treasure Valley ended in 1928 when the Interurban sank - as did rail transportation systems across the country during the same period.
